Odoo for IoT & manufacturing companies
An increasing number of companies in the IoT industry have needs that go far beyond the limits of conventional ERP solutions or software tools, particularly when it comes to digitalization, comprehensive manufacturing processes, or optimization of purchasing and inventory management.
Lobaro GmbH, based in Hamburg (Germany), also had to face these challenges in the past. And ultimately, Odoo's modular solution offered the flexibility, scalability, and control they needed, enabling more efficient and successful business operations.
Lobaro GmbH develops innovative radio-based IoT sensors and gateways for industrial applications, especially the fields of metering and smart city solutions. Lobaro is able to deploy an integrated technology approach where all components are perfectly aligned. The company offers everything from hardware and firmware to its own IoT platform and also develops customized software solutions.
The previously used ERP solution could not meet the company’s internal requirements for flexibility or support its complex stock and purchase management as well as manufacturing processes. As a result, Lobaro began searching for a more suitable system and ultimately chose Odoo, the all-in-one solution.
Other ERP systems reached their limits

Lobaro had very specific requirements for their ERP system.
The previous solution from Xentral did not offer an on-premise alternative or a development environment for its own modules and only allowed very limited configuration options. The old system quickly reached its limits, especially in production, for example with external suppliers and complex routes.
Odoo: The game changer

Before introducing Odoo, Lobaro evaluated several other ERP-software providers, such as ERPNext. Ultimately, Odoo proved to be the perfect solution, offering full hosting control through Odoo.sh, a high degree of flexibility with Odoo Studio and the possibility of implementing their own custom developments within the platform in the long term.
After choosing Odoo as their business solution, Lobaro launched the implementation phase with a consulting package of 100 hours to get a comprehensive understanding of the system and to define the company’s custom needs and requirements. Subsequently, the Lobaro team took on many tasks independently during the course of the project, including data migration, module testing and system configuration, ensuring seamless integration and optimal alignment with their business processes.
The existing stock and production operations proved to be extremely complex, requiring detailed and careful planning. Designing creative solutions to map complex warehouse structures and multi-level production scenarios was essential to ensure efficient and flexible control of material flows and manufacturing operations.
Lobaro’s most important tool is Odoo Studio. With this tool, the company is able to add missing information for customs invoices, such as HS codes or source countries, without relying on external developers. This flexibility enables Lobaro to respond quickly and efficiently to changing regulations and avoid delays in the shipping process.

Just three months after implementing Odoo, they went live and began deploying it in production. Lobaro’s daily operations and different process workflows improved immediately:
Digital accounting: The preparatory accounting has been completely digitalized.
