Duna Trading is a company that has been selling windsurfing and surfing equipment for almost 40 years, and this long history has allowed it to consolidate its position in the sector. On the one hand, it has a wholesale sales channel through shops and surf schools. On the other hand, it offers dropshipping support for websites aimed at the general public, even handling all the logistics, as in the case of Surcoshop. All this has been possible thanks to the passion that characterizes the entire Duna team.
From dispersion to centralization
Throughout its many years of experience, Duna has worked with different media. Before making the leap to Odoo, they were working with Contaplus as their accounting program, Factusol for invoicing, and a custom-made program for logistics management.
More than five years ago, they made the decision to look for new management software. Having several programs that were not connected to each other was inefficient, so they needed a tool that would allow them to centralize information.
The requirements were not insignificant. On that basis, they needed real-time warehouse management that was fully integrated with budget preparation. They also needed to ensure that the website was up to date for online orders and that a product sold was available in the warehouse.
These needs had to be met without other interfaces or spreadsheets; everything had to be accessible from a single program available to all employees. This way, if an employee is absent, others can view and intervene in their tasks without interrupting the workflow.
All of this required a custom program. However, this is too expensive for an SME, and there is very little potential for growth and scalability if it is not done with the right software.
Before deciding on Odoo, they also considered the DelSol package. Ultimately, it was ruled out due to its limited online sales potential. That is how, more than five years ago, they began implementing Odoo at Duna Trading.
Let's start with Odoo
The process of implementing a new management software always seems complicated at first. It involves data migration, learning new working methods, and a new tool, which generally forces all employees, regardless of their role, to step out of their comfort zone.
For all these reasons, Duna decided to purchase a package of implementation hours with Odoo experts. This assistance with both configuration and training made the process much easier.
Warehouse logistics was the most complicated part of implementing the system. When they started working with Odoo several versions ago, some tools were not yet fully developed, but fortunately, they have been improved over time. Duna highlights the improvements in the picking and packing system and the incorporation of barcode scanning in all steps.
“We all think that our company or modus operandi is unique.”
Duna says that thanks to the guidance and help of the Odoo consultant in charge of implementing the system in their company, they were able to fit perfectly into a modularly designed software.
Among the many improvements they have identified at Duna, they highlight the accessibility to information that all colleagues now have. Having everything at their fingertips has made day-to-day management much easier. This has changed the way colleagues communicate in a positive way; they no longer depend on one person having certain information about product locations, how to perform specific operations, etc.
“Odoo allows you to dream big.”
For Duna, the option to incorporate any module at any time is one of the most significant improvements. Over the years, they have found that when a new need arises, Odoo already has a module developed for it, ready to install and start working without custom development, saving both time and money.
Duna Trading recommends using Odoo, believing that their management software is no longer a limitation for their business. With the ability to start with the basics and grow into areas not initially planned, this advantage gives them the agility to adapt to new techniques and ways of bringing the product to market, even before large competitors with more rigid tools.
