In a market where efficiency and customer service are critical, MAP Medical (Mercury Allegiant Partners) turned to Odoo to support its mission of becoming a customized medical supply distributor. With a vast catalog of over 500,000 SKUs, the company needed more than just software: it needed an integrated solution that could power growth, streamline operations, and deliver exceptional client experiences.

MAP Medical is a specialty wholesale B2B distributor focused on consumable medical supplies, with occasional equipment sales. The company primarily serves acute care facilities like hospitals, oncology clinics, hematology labs, urgent care centers, and surgery centers. They also work with long-term care facilities and university research labs. Their offering goes beyond transactions; they solve supply chain challenges so healthcare providers can focus on patient care.

The company was co-founded by Managing Partners Zach Perry and Kelton Lewis. Kelton brought over 11 years of experience from a previous wholesale distributor in the medical supply space, while Zach came from a background in corporate banking and fintech. Their complementary skillsets (industry knowledge and operational expertise) sparked the idea to build something new. That idea came to life over coffee in Logan Square, Chicago, where they mapped out their venture two years ago.

"We’re striving to be our partners’ medical supply concierge. Taking the time to solve unique challenges and bespoke problems, so they can focus on patient care."

Software Puzzles Before Odoo

Before choosing Odoo, MAP Medical knew exactly what was at stake. From day one, they understood the scale and complexity of what they were building. Their catalog was going to involve hundreds of thousands of SKUs and thousands of manufacturers. They needed a system robust and flexible enough to manage inventory, sales, accounting, customer relationships, and everything in one place.

Kelton had worked with Method Integration in a prior role, but the experience left a negative impression. The platform was dated and fragmented; key functions like accounting were separate, which caused major data sync issues. With that experience in mind, MAP Medical knew they couldn’t afford disconnected systems.

"In that previous system, the accounting software was separate. I remember a malfunction that caused QuickBooks to delete sales orders. It took three to four months to sort out. Having everything in one place with Odoo just made sense.”

Odoo Changed the Equation

"There was a lot of value in having everything native to one solution (CRM, warehouse & catalog management, accounting). With Odoo, it’s all there. That’s a huge advantage.

MAP Medical found Odoo through a simple Google search, but what they discovered was a powerful, unified ERP that could support their ambitions from day one. With guidance from their IT consultant, they quickly saw the value of having all core functions in one native platform.

Odoo’s Inventory, Sales, Accounting, CRM, and Website apps became foundational to daily operations. With no need to manage disconnected APIs or multiple vendors, the company could focus on serving clients, not troubleshooting tech.

  • The Inventory app, in particular, helps MAP manage an enormous catalog with flexibility and speed. Internal communication is also vastly improved, with features like logging notes, sending emails to clients, and tracking updates, all within the same system.
  • For MAP Medical, the platform’s ability to enrich contact data stood out immediately. When new contacts are added, Odoo automatically populates relevant information such as projected revenue, phone numbers, industries, and job titles, provided the data exists online. This added visibility has been a game-changer for the team.
  • Lead generation and follow-up have also seen dramatic improvements. Web inquiries are now instantly submitted into the CRM, allowing sales representatives to view and act on them in real time. “Before Odoo, lead submission was much more manual and slower. Now everything from our website flows into the CRM right away. We’ve eliminated a huge bottleneck, Kelton says”
  • By streamlining customer orders through Sales, tracking financials in Accounting, and managing relationships via CRM, MAP Medical achieved operational clarity, something that’s hard to come by in a startup environment. Despite being a team of just 10 to 12 people (including contractors), MAP is able to operate with the effectiveness of a much larger company. Their nimbleness, enabled by Odoo’s flexibility, became a competitive advantage against much larger players in the industry.

Scaling New Heights With the Right Tools

Looking to the future, MAP Medical aims to continue building on its use of Odoo as the business grows. With an expanding catalog and more suppliers, the team is focused on scaling operations while maintaining the high-touch service their customers expect.

Kelton Lewis shared that the team is exploring how to expand into areas like eCommerce and use more automation within the system, particularly in procurement and customer experience.

"We’ve got a really solid foundation. Now it’s about continuing to unlock value within the tools."

MAP Medical’s story is a clear example of how even small, agile teams can outperform expectations with the right technology. If your business is navigating complex operations, fragmented tools, or inefficient workflows, Odoo could be the system that brings it all together.
